Low-Dimensional Systems Lab
Our research is centered on understanding the physics of high-quality two-dimensional carriers in selectively doped GaAs/AlAs heterojunction structures and quantum wells. At low temperatures, the mobile carriers in such structures have mean-free-paths which often reach several microns, making these systems the cleanest in the world.
Composite fermions are exotic particles formed by the pairing up of magnetic flux to ordinary electrons and holes. We employ commensurability oscillations to understand their transport properties.
he Aharonov-Bohm effect in a 2D hole system under stain can shed light on the spin Berry phase. We investigate the effect of strain on the phase of spins that traverse the mesoscopic ring structure.
Transport measurements of the ν=4/5 fractional quantum Hall state reveal a spin-polarization transition of two-flux composite fermions, signifying a ferromagnetic Wigner crystal.
